Summary

CVE-2023-43796 is a vulnerability affecting Synapse, an open-source Matrix homeserver. Prior to versions 1.95.1 and 1.96.0rc1, this software inadvertently exposed cached device information of remote users. An attacker could exploit this flaw to enumerate the remote users registered with a Synapse homeserver. Administrators are advised to upgrade to Synapse 1.95.1 or 1.96.0rc1 to apply the patch. As a temporary measure, implementing a `federation_domain_whitelist` can limit federation traffic with untrusted servers.
