Summary

CVE-2023-42804 is a recently identified vulnerability affecting BigBlueButton, an open-source virtual classroom platform. Prior to version 2.6.0-beta.1, the software contained a path traversal vulnerability, which enabled unauthenticated attackers to access files with certain extensions (txt, swf, svg, png) outside of their intended folders. This issue arose due to insufficient input validation. Version 2.6.0-beta.1 introduced improved validation to prevent such attacks, and no known workarounds exist for earlier versions.
