Summary

CVE-2023-42794 is an Incomplete Cleanup vulnerability affecting Apache Tomcat versions 9.0.70 to 9.0.80 and 8.5.85 to 8.5.93. The issue stems from an unreleased refactoring in the Commons FileUpload package, leading to a denial of service risk on Windows systems. When a web application opens a stream for an uploaded file but fails to close it, the file remains on the disk, potentially causing a disk space exhaustion issue over time. To mitigate this risk, users should upgrade to Tomcat versions 9.0.81 or later and 8.5.94 or later.
