Summary
CVE-2023-42453 affects Synapse, an open-source Matrix homeserver. This vulnerability allows users to forge read receipts for any event in a room by knowing the room and event IDs. Despite not being able to view the events, this issue can lead to confusion as clients will display the events as read by the user. The Matrix.org Foundation has released a patch in version 1.93.0, and users are strongly advised to upgrade as there are no known workarounds.
