Summary

CVE-2023-42366 is a heap buffer overflow vulnerability affecting BusyBox version 1.36.1. The issue was identified in the next_token function located at awk.c:1159. An attacker could exploit this vulnerability by sending specially crafted input to a vulnerable AWS service that uses BusyBox, potentially leading to arbitrary code execution and resulting in serious security implications. This vulnerability poses a significant risk to systems that use BusyBox and have not been updated to a fixed version. It is highly recommended to apply the latest patch or upgrade to a version not affected by this issue to mitigate the risk.
