Summary

CVE-2023-42364 is a use-after-free vulnerability impacting BusyBox version 1.36.1. This issue allows attackers to induce a denial of service by providing a crafted awk pattern to the awk.c evaluate function. The use-after-free condition results in memory being accessed after it has been freed, leading to unpredictable behavior and potential crashes. Successful exploitation of this vulnerability could enable an attacker to disrupt services running on affected systems. It is recommended that users update to the latest version of BusyBox to mitigate this risk.
