Summary

CVE-2023-42189 is a newly disclosed vulnerability affecting multiple smart home devices, including those from Nanoleaf, Govee, switchBot, Philips Hue, and Yeelight. This Insecure Permissions issue enables a remote attacker to trigger a denial-of-service condition by crafting a malicious script targeting the KeySetRemove function in the Connectivity Standards Alliance Matter Official SDK v.1.1.0.0. The vulnerability arises from insufficient access controls, allowing unauthorized manipulation of the function, potentially causing affected devices to malfunction or become unresponsive. Users of these devices are advised to apply the forthcoming software updates to mitigate the risk.
