Summary

CVE-2023-42096 is a remote code execution vulnerability in Foxit PDF Reader. This issue arises from a flaw in the PDF file parsing process, where the software fails to validate the existence of an object before performing operations on it. An attacker can exploit this use-after-free vulnerability by crafting a malicious PDF file or directing a user to a malicious webpage. Successful exploitation allows the attacker to execute arbitrary code in the context of the current process. This vulnerability, identified as ZDI-CAN-21880, poses a significant risk to users of Foxit PDF Reader who may encounter malicious PDF files or visit compromised websites.
