Summary

CVE-2023-41048 is a stored cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability affecting Plone's plone.namedfile before versions 5.6.1, 6.0.3, 6.1.3, and 6.2.1. This issue lets users handle File and Image fields, which can be exploited to inject malicious code into SVG images. Previously, a security hotfix mitigated this by forcing downloads instead of displaying SVG images inline. However, the issue persists for SVG image scales. Exploitation requires an attacker to upload a malicious image and lure a user into clicking a crafted link. Updates to versions 5.6.1 (Plone 5.2), 6.0.3 (Plone 6.0.0-6.0.4), 6.1.3 (Plone 6.0.5-6.0.6), and 6.2.1 (Plone 6.0.7) include patches to resolve the issue, with no known workarounds.
