Summary

CVE-2023-41046 is a vulnerability impacting the XWiki Platform, a wiki solution that allows users to build applications. The issue lies in the platform's Velocity engine, which can be exploited without requiring scripting privileges. By creating an XClass with a VelocityCode or VelocityWiki property and adding it to an object, an attacker can execute Velocity code. Although this doesn't grant access to privileged APIs, it can still provide access to otherwise restricted data and APIs, potentially leading to further privilege escalation. The vulnerability has existed since at least XWiki 7.2, but was only considered a security issue after scripting rights were introduced as a separate permission. XWiki 14.10.10 and 15.4 RC1 have been released as patches. All users are advised to upgrade promptly. No known workarounds are available for this vulnerability.
