Summary

CVE-2023-40931 is a SQL injection vulnerability affecting Nagios XI versions 5.11.0 to 5.11.1. Malicious users with authentication privileges can exploit this flaw by sending a specially crafted POST request to the /nagiosxi/admin/banner_message-ajaxhelper.php endpoint. The ID parameter in this request is the attack vector, allowing attackers to execute arbitrary SQL commands and potentially gain unauthorized access to sensitive data or make unintended modifications to the Nagios XI configuration. This vulnerability poses a significant risk to organizations using Nagios XI and necessitates immediate patching to mitigate the threat.
