Summary

CVE-2023-40183 is a vulnerability affecting the open-source DataEase data visualization and analysis tool. Prior to version 1.18.11, DataEase lacked sufficient security checks on file uploads, allowing an attacker to upload a malicious image file. The image file extension is not restricted, enabling attackers to disguise malicious HTML files as images. The vulnerable code uses the `ImageIO.read()` method to determine file types, which does not prevent the upload of HTML files. An attacker can then create a link within the malicious HTML file to steal user cookies. The vulnerability has been resolved in version 1.18.11, and no workarounds are currently available.
