Summary

CVE-2023-3994 is a vulnerability affecting GitLab CE/EE versions 9.3 before 16.0.8, 16.1 before 16.1.3, and 16.2 before 16.2.2. This issue allows an attacker to initiate a Regular Expression Denial of Service (ReDoS) by sending specially crafted payloads to the preview_markdown endpoint using the ProjectReferenceFilter. The vulnerability can lead to excessive resource consumption, potentially causing denial of service conditions on the affected GitLab server.
