Summary

CVE-2023-38701 is a vulnerability affecting the Hydra scalability solution for Cardano. Prior to version 0.12.0, the `commit` and `initial` validators contained a flawed check for the `ViaAbort` redeemer, enabling any user to arbitrarily spend UTxOs committed to these validators. This bypassed the intended behavior, where funds should be returned only to the committing user and by a participant of the head validator. Consequently, an attacker could steal funds being committed to a Hydra head and prevent heads from being opened. However, version 0.12.0 includes a fix for this issue, mitigating these risks.
