Summary

CVE-2023-38684 affects the Discourse open-source discussion platform, impacting versions prior to 3.0.6 of the stable branch and 3.1.0.beta7 of the beta and tests-passed branches. In certain controller actions, Discourse accepts limit params without imposing any upper limit, creating a risk for arbitrary users to execute DB queries that could exhaust server resources. This issue has been rectified in the aforementioned patches, and currently, there are no known workarounds to mitigate the vulnerability.
