Summary

CVE-2023-38253 is a newly discovered vulnerability affecting the w3m text-based web browser. The issue resides in the growbuf_to_Str function located in indep.c file. An out-of-bounds read flaw has been identified, which can be exploited by attackers to cause a denial of service. They can achieve this by crafting malicious HTML files that, when rendered by w3m, trigger the vulnerability and result in the browser crashing or becoming unresponsive. This vulnerability poses a threat to systems using w3m and requires immediate attention for patching or mitigation.
