Summary

CVE-2023-37277 is a vulnerability affecting the XWiki Platform, a wiki solution that offers runtime services for applications. The REST API of this platform, which accepts POST requests with various content types, is susceptible to Cross-Site Request Forgery (CSRF) attacks. An attacker can exploit this vulnerability by inducing a user with programming rights to execute malicious scripts through macros, leading to remote code execution and potential data breaches, denial of service, and unauthorized system access. The vulnerability is partially mitigated by SameSite cookie restrictions for classic cookie-based authentication, but as of March 2023, these restrictions are not enabled by default in Firefox and Safari. XWiki versions 14.10.8 and 15.2 have been patched by requiring a CSRF token header for susceptible request types to prevent CSRF attacks.
