Summary

CVE-2023-37269 is a stored cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability affecting the Winter CMS, an open-source content management system based on the Laravel PHP framework. Prior to version 1.2.3, the system did not sanitize SVG uploads as application logos, allowing attackers with `backend.manage_branding` permissions to inject malicious scripts. However, this vulnerability poses limited risk, as it requires attackers to have extensive access and control within the system and convince victims to directly visit a maliciously uploaded SVG file. Additionally, the application needs to serve uploaded files under the same domain as the application instead of using a content delivery network (CDN). The issue is resolved in v1.2.3, which includes full support for SVG uploads and automatic sanitization. As a workaround, manual patches can be applied.
