Summary

CVE-2023-37251 refers to a vulnerability in the GoogleAnalyticsMetrics extension for MediaWiki versions up to 1.39.3. This issue arises from the googleanalyticstrackurl parser function's inability to correctly escape JavaScript in the onclick handler, allowing the use of malicious javascript: URLs. An attacker could exploit this flaw to execute arbitrary code within the MediaWiki environment, potentially leading to unauthorised data access or site takeover. Users are strongly advised to update their MediaWiki installations to the latest version to mitigate this risk.
