Summary

CVE-2023-36842 is a Denial of Service (DoS) vulnerability impacting the Juniper DHCP Daemon (jdhcpd) in Juniper Networks Junos OS. An unauthenticated attacker can exploit this Improper Check for Unusual or Exceptional Conditions flaw by sending a specific DHCP packet to a non-configured interface. This causes an infinite loop, resulting in the jdhcpd process consuming all available CPU cycles. The affected Junos OS versions include those prior to 20.4R3-S9, 21.2 versions before 21.2R3-S7, 21.3 versions before 21.3R3-S5, 21.4 versions before 21.4R3-S5, 22.1 versions before 22.1R3-S4, 22.2 versions before 22.2R3-S3, 22.3 versions before 22.3R3-S2, 22.4 versions before 22.4R2-S2 and 22.4R3, and 23.2 versions before 23.2R2. To mitigate this issue, administrators should upgrade their Junos OS to the respective patched version.
