Summary

CVE-2023-36822 is a path traversal vulnerability affecting Uptime Kuma, a self-hosted monitoring tool, prior to version 1.22.1. Authenticated users can exploit this weakness through the plugin installation API endpoints, which are still accessible despite being disabled in the web interface. These endpoints check for the existence of the plugin installation directory before installing a plugin. Since the plugin is not validated against an official list or sanitized, malicious users can manipulate the check to traverse directories and delete files, potentially leading to Uptime Kuma or the entire system becoming unavailable due to data loss.
