Summary

CVE-2023-36810 is a vulnerability affecting the pypdf library, which is used for splitting, merging, and transforming PDF files in Python. An attacker can create a malicious PDF document that causes the library to experience unexpectedly long runtime, leading to a significant CPU utilization of up to 100% on a single core. This issue does not impact memory usage and has been addressed in PR 808. Users are strongly advised to upgrade to versions 1.27.9 or later to mitigate this vulnerability. No known workarounds currently exist.
