Summary

CVE-2023-36474 is a vulnerability affecting the Interactsh open-source tool, used for detecting out-of-band interactions, prior to version 1.0.0. The issue lies in the default configuration of self-hosted Interactsh servers, which inadvertently create CNAME entries for the subdomain 'app.' pointing to 'projectdiscovery.github.io'. This misconfiguration left servers vulnerable to subdomain takeover. A threat actor could exploit this by hosting arbitrary client-side code (cross-site scripting) on the vulnerable subdomain, allowing potential code execution in users' browsers when visiting the site. The vulnerability is resolved in version 1.0.0, which now makes CNAME usage optional instead of default.
