Summary

CVE-2023-35897 is a new vulnerability affecting IBM Spectrum Protect Client and IBM Storage Protect for Virtual Environments versions 8.1.0.0 through 8.1.19.0. This issue allows local users to execute arbitrary code on the system by exploiting a DLL hijacking flaw, as outlined in IBM X-Force ID: 259246. IBM's software fails to adequately secure the loading of DLLs, enabling a malicious file to replace a legitimate one and ultimately granting attackers unintended system access. This vulnerability poses a significant risk, as an attacker could potentially gain full control of the affected system. It is crucial for IBM users to update their software to a patched version to prevent potential exploitation.
