Summary

CVE-2023-35169 is a vulnerability affecting the PHP-IMAP wrapper before version 5.3.0. This issue allows unauthenticated users to execute arbitrary code through a directory traversal attack on unsanitized attachment filenames. Applications using the `webklex/php-imap` or `webklex/laravel-imap` packages and storing attachments without providing a secure filename are vulnerable. Malicious emails with attachments can trigger the vulnerability by using unsanitized input in the filename. The package does not sanitize these filenames, allowing attackers to upload and overwrite any file type with malicious code, potentially gaining system-level access. The vulnerability is mitigated in version 5.3.0 with a patch.
