Summary

CVE-2023-35163 is a vulnerability affecting version 0.71.5 and below of the decentralized trading platform Vega.Malicious validators can exploit this issue to manipulate past Ethereum events on Vega's Ethereum bridge, leading to fraudulent transactions.For instance, a single deposit of 100USDT can be reprocessed up to 50 times, resulting in unauthorized gains of 5000USDT.Although access to a validator's Vega key is required to exploit this vulnerability, obtaining one only costs 3000VEGA.Version 0.71.6 includes a patch to address this issue, and there are no known workarounds.Monitoring alerts have been implemented on the mainnet1 to detect and prevent any exploitation of this vulnerability.Validators also have the power to halt the bridge, preventing further withdrawals should this exploit be successfully employed.
