Summary

CVE-2023-34967 is a Type Confusion vulnerability affecting Samba's mdssvc RPC service for Spotlight. The issue lies in the lack of type checking in the dalloc_value_for_key() function when parsing Spotlight mdssvc RPC packets. This can cause a crash in talloc_get_size() when an invalid talloc pointer is detected. With a shared RPC worker process serving multiple client connections, a malicious client or attacker can trigger a process crash in the shared mdssvc worker process, impacting all other clients it serves.
