Summary

CVE-2023-34242 is a vulnerability affecting Cilium, an eBPF-based networking, observability, and security solution. Prior to version 1.13.4, enabling the Gateway API in Cilium could result in the solution unintentionally gaining visibility of secrets and services across namespaces due to a missing check on the namespace where a ReferenceGrant is created. This issue poses a risk as an attacker on an affected cluster could misuse cluster secrets or communicate with services they shouldn't have access to. The Gateway API functionality is disabled by default, and the vulnerability is addressed in Cilium release 1.13.4. A workaround involves restricting the creation of ReferenceGrant resources to admin users through Kubernetes RBAC.
