Summary

CVE-2023-3181 is a vulnerability affecting the Splashtop Software Updater's uninst.exe process. When the process creates a temporary folder in C:\\Windows\\Temp and copies itself as Au_.exe, the file is launched as SYSTEM upon system reboot or during MSI repair using the Splashtop Streamer's Windows Installer. Due to the inherited permissions from C:\\Windows\\Temp, standard users can write malicious DLLs to the temporary folder (C:\\Windows\\Temp~nsu.tmp), potentially elevating their privileges through DLL hijacking.
