Summary

CVE-2023-2990 is a newly disclosed denial-of-service vulnerability affecting Fortra Globalscape EFT versions prior to 8.1.0.16. The issue arises when the software encounters a compressed message that decompresses to an identical copy of itself, leading to an infinite recursion process that ultimately crashes the service, rendering it unavailable for legitimate use. This vulnerability could be exploited by malicious actors to cause service disruptions or perform denial-of-service attacks on targeted organizations. Upgrading to the latest version, 8.1.0.16, is strongly advised to mitigate this risk.
