Summary

CVE-2023-29198 is a vulnerability affecting Electron, a framework used to build cross-platform desktop applications with JavaScript, HTML, and CSS. This issue lies in the context isolation mechanism, allowing code in the renderer process to bypass this security feature and access privileged actions. The vulnerability is triggered when an API exposed to the main world via `contextBridge` returns an object or array containing a non-serializable JavaScript object, such as a canvas rendering context. Version 25.0.0-alpha.2, 24.0.1, 23.2.3, and 22.3.6 have been released to address this issue. Developers can mitigate the risk by ensuring all values returned from a function exposed over the context bridge are supported and do not contain non-serializable objects.
