Summary

CVE-2023-28366 is a memory leak vulnerability affecting the broker in Eclipse Mosquitto versions 1.3.2 through 2.x up to 2.0.16. This issue can be exploited remotely when clients send a large number of QoS 2 messages with identical message IDs. The broker fails to respond to PUBREC commands due to mishandling of EAGAIN from the libc send function, leading to memory leakage. Successful exploitation of this vulnerability could result in denial of service or potential code injection attacks. It is recommended that affected users upgrade to Eclipse Mosquitto version 2.0.16 or later to mitigate this risk.
