Summary

CVE-2023-27898 is a stored cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability affecting Jenkins versions 2.270 through 2.393 and LTS 2.277.1 through 2.375.3. This issue occurs because Jenkins fails to properly escape the version of a plugin that a dependency error message states, allowing attackers to provide malicious plugins to configured update sites. If an attacker's plugin is used, Jenkins instances will display the error message containing the malicious script. Successful exploitation of this vulnerability could lead to unauthorized data access or manipulation within the Jenkins environment.
