Summary

CVE-2023-2728 is a newly discovered vulnerability in Kubernetes that allows users to launch containers bypassing the mountable secrets policy enforced by the ServiceAccount admission plugin. This policy prevents pods from referencing secrets not listed in the service account's secrets field. However, when using ephemeral containers, this vulnerability enables users to bypass the policy, potentially compromising the security of Kubernetes clusters that employ the ServiceAccount admission plugin and the `kubernetes.io/enforce-mountable-secrets` annotation. This issue poses a significant risk to containerized environments and requires immediate attention and patching.
