Summary

CVE-2023-20269 is a vulnerability affecting the remote access VPN feature in Cisco Adaptive Security Appliance (ASA) Software and Cisco Firepower Threat Defense (FTD) Software. The issue arises from insufficient separation of authentication, authorization, and accounting (AAA) between the remote access VPN feature and the HTTPS management and site-to-site VPN features. An unauthenticated or authenticated attacker could exploit this flaw to attempt brute force attacks, potentially identifying valid username and password combinations or establishing an unauthorized clientless SSL VPN session. This vulnerability impacts Cisco ASA Software Release 9.16 and earlier, and does not enable attackers to bypass authentication. Cisco plans to release software updates to address the issue, and workarounds are available to mitigate the risk.
