Summary

CVE-2023-0809 is a vulnerability affecting Mosquitto versions prior to 2.0.16. Maliciously crafted initial packets, other than CONNECT packets, can trigger excessive memory allocation within the Mosquitto MQTT broker. This issue may lead to denial of service or even memory exhaustion, potentially causing the broker to crash. Attackers could exploit this vulnerability by sending specially crafted packets to the affected Mosquitto instance. It is strongly recommended that users upgrade to a patched version of Mosquitto to mitigate this risk.
