Summary

CVE-2020-36769 is a Stored Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) vulnerability affecting the Widget Settings Importer/Exporter Plugin for WordPress. This issue, present in versions up to 1.5.3, allows authenticated attackers with subscriber-level permissions and above to inject malicious scripts. The vulnerability is due to insufficient input sanitization and output escaping in the wp_ajax_import_widget_dataparameter AJAX action, enabling attackers to execute their code whenever a user accesses an injected page. This can lead to unintended functionality, data theft, or other malicious activities. Upgrading to a patched version or disabling the plugin is recommended to mitigate this threat.
