Summary

CVE-2000-0268 is a denial-of-service vulnerability affecting Cisco IOS 11.x and 12.x. Malicious actors can trigger the issue by sending the ENVIRON option to the Telnet daemon prior to it being prepared to accept it, causing the system to reboot unintendedly. This behavior results in a denial-of-service condition, making the targeted device inaccessible to authorized users until it is rebooted. Attackers can exploit this vulnerability remotely, potentially causing significant disruptions to network services. Organizations using vulnerable versions of Cisco IOS are advised to apply the relevant patches or updates to mitigate this risk.
