Summary

CVE-1999-1376 is a significant buffer overflow vulnerability affecting the fpcount.exe component of IIS 4.0 with FrontPage Server Extensions. An attacker can exploit this flaw by sending specially crafted data to the server, resulting in the overwriting of memory beyond the intended buffer boundary. This issue allows the attacker to execute arbitrary commands with the privileges of the IIS 4.0 process, potentially leading to a serious compromise of the targeted system. This vulnerability was discovered over two decades ago, but it still serves as a reminder of the importance of keeping software up-to-date to mitigate known security risks.
