Summary
CVE-1999-0876 refers to a buffer overflow vulnerability discovered in Internet Explorer 4.0. Maliciously crafted EMBED tag code could cause the browser to write more data to a memory buffer than intended, leading to an overflow condition. This issue posed a significant risk as it could allow an attacker to execute arbitrary code in the context of the affected user. The vulnerability required a user to visit a specially crafted webpage, making it a common attack vector for drive-by downloads. Microsoft released a patch to address the issue, but due to the widespread usage of Internet Explorer 4.0 at the time, many systems remained vulnerable.
