Summary

CVE-1999-0685 is a buffer overflow vulnerability affecting Netscape Communicator. This issue arises due to a flaw in the handling of EMBED tags in the pluginspage option. An attacker can exploit this vulnerability by crafting a maliciously crafted EMBED tag, leading to an overflow of data into adjacent memory. The resulting memory corruption can allow an attacker to execute arbitrary code or cause the application to crash, potentially leading to security compromises or denial-of-service conditions.
