Summary

CVE-1999-0593 is a vulnerability affecting Windows NT operating systems. This issue arises from the default setting of the Winlogon key entry ShutdownWithoutLogon, which permits users with physical access to initiate a system shutdown without the need for authentication. This creates a potential security risk, as an unauthorized user could exploit this vulnerability to gain access to the system or cause damage without leaving a trace through system logs. To mitigate this vulnerability, administrators should modify the ShutdownWithoutLogon setting to require authentication before allowing a system shutdown.
