Summary
CVE-1999-0512 is a vulnerability affecting mail servers that allow SMTP mail relay with explicit configuration. This setting can be exploited by spammers to send large volumes of unsolicited emails, potentially leading to network congestion and increased traffic. The vulnerability exists because the mail server does not adequately restrict relaying to only authorized sources. To mitigate this risk, it is recommended that mail servers be configured to only allow SMTP mail relay for trusted sources.
