Summary

CVE-1999-0494 is a denial-of-service vulnerability affecting WinGate proxy servers. The issue arises from a buffer overflow in the POP3 (Post Office Protocol version 3) implementation. An attacker can exploit this vulnerability by sending specially crafted emails to the POP3 service, causing it to overflow the buffer and crash the WinGate proxy server. As a result, the server becomes unavailable, leading to a denial-of-service condition. Systems running outdated or unpatched versions of WinGate are at risk. It is highly recommended that administators install the available patch to mitigate this vulnerability.
