Summary

CVE-1999-0342 is a vulnerability affecting Linux Pluggable Authentication Modules (PAM). This issue grants local users the ability to elevate their privileges and access root level permissions, by exploiting temporary files created during the PAM authentication process. An attacker can manipulate these files to execute arbitrary code and gain root access. The vulnerability poses a significant risk to systems running affected versions of Linux PAM. System administrators are advised to update their PAM modules to a secure version to mitigate this threat.
