Summary

CVE-1999-0008 is a buffer overflow vulnerability affecting Sun's rpc.nisd program, which is part of the NIS+ implementation. This issue arises due to insufficient bounds checking on input data, allowing an attacker to overwrite adjacent memory locations with malicious data. An attacker could exploit this vulnerability by sending specially crafted packets to the targeted system, potentially leading to arbitrary code execution or a denial-of-service condition. Systems with NIS+ enabled and unpatched rpc.nisd software are at risk.
